Out of...office?
I love those away emails that get auto-sent when someone’s not at work. The setting of boundaries, the deliberate disconnect from messages that may or may not be worth their time - I love it. People should use them more often. For that matter, people should take vacations from work more often.
Substack isn’t work - at least, it isn’t work work. It is, however, a call upon my time. A structured and reasonably demanding one, for which I need time and an internet connection and enough mental bandwidth to craft something you’ll enjoy reading. Which is why sometimes I need a break from it too, as I do from my freelancing. And since I love you guys and I love consistency, I wanted my away-from-work message to be a little homier than the Gmail auto-responses. Because setting boundaries is good, but making your online family feel included in that decision is better.
So, if you’re reading this, I’m away. Somewhere in the wilderness, reconnecting with myself, tackling the talus, hopping the hoodoos, all that good stuff. Once I’m back, I’ll have more experiences to share, which means more fun reading material for everyone. Until then - love, health and flat whites to you.
